Where to buy water at night in Zagreb (without wandering)
Sometimes you just need a bottle of water, and you need it now. Here's where to buy water at night in central Zagreb, and what it costs.
Zagreb tap water is safe and good. But if you're in a hotel, on the road, in a car or simply want a bottle — at night it's harder to find than it should be.
When the shops are closed
Konzum, Kaufland, Lidl and drugstores close by 10pm at the latest, many earlier. Petrol stations stay open but they're outside the centre and pricier. Vendo, in central Zagreb by Trg žrtava fašizma, is open 24/7 every day, including Sundays and public holidays. Water is always in stock.
Water at Vendo — what's actually there
- Cetina still 0.5 L for €1.10. Classic Croatian spring water.
- The full water selection (still, sparkling, bigger bottles) from from €1.10.
The price is fixed. Same at 3am as at 3pm. No "night surcharge" like at petrol stations.
When it's not worth waiting until morning
- After a night out. Water before bed shortens the morning hangover. Take two, not one.
- During a night shift. Working 12 hours? A bottle with an espresso for €0.90 lasts half your shift.
- Before an early trip. Early flight, morning train, bus at 5:30 — better to carry a bottle than hope the station kiosk is open.
- A child who woke up thirsty. Vendo is five minutes away, open, quick.
- Tourists who just arrived. Zagreb Main Train Station is 700 m away, the Bus Station 900 m. More in the guides Zagreb train station at night and Zagreb bus station at night.
If tap water is fine with you
Zagreb tap water is among Europe's best. If you have a refillable bottle — hotel, apartment, public fountain on Zrinjevac or Trg žrtava fašizma — that's the cheapest option. Vendo is for the moment when the bottle isn't handy, or when you want spring water.
